So far I really like how new writer gives stakes to battles while keeping them not too high. 1st season suffered a lot from stakes being too high that Hiiro had to win, while this series has Seven Shadows and Seventh Flame + Ryuga + Mikado battle out in first to 5 wins match, which lets characters win and lose while keeping high stakes. Most likely new writer seen the criticism that was thrown towards 1st season and took necessary steps to make sure not to repeat the same mistakes.
