So, there’s a reason why people recommend that anime-onlies go into this show with as little knowledge about the manga as possible.

    2. Holy fuck that ending, this show is going to be so real (within the established verisimilitude). Rafal followed so literally behind Hubert. *Unless they pull off a faked death, but that feels too tropey for this.*

Poor Potocki. I don’t blame him for acting the way that he does. As a teacher, supposedly one of the few for children, he’s torn between the truth, and the safety of them. He can’t sacrifice himself just for one person.

    3. Holy shit what an episode. I am so curious on how in the world the series will continue after this?

    4. as manga reader, what I would pay to be able to watch chi/orb as if it’s the first time graced by this masterpiece

    6. I may not have read the manga, but I broadly understand the history that this show is based on, so I am not surprised by the events. The dismay that this show imparts to the audience must be in some measure similar to the dismay of people who had to risk their lives to go against society in pursuit of truth.

Who knows, maybe this show has something to teach us beyond the movements of planets, in this era where people choose to believe in lies instead of what science reveals to us.

    7. Wow! I didn’t expect this to be a series where we’d switch protagonists, but I suppose that this makes sense given the premise. People got persecuted and their work was built onto by others.

But damn, what a hell of a power move by Rafal. He literally tore apart his future with that admission form, and declared his faith in heliocentrism for all to hear at his trail. Instead of living a life of lies, he decided to follow his heart.

Once the genie is out of the bottle, it’s hard to get him back in.

    8. Pacing-wise there’re moments I need time to let my emotions sink in, or take my own pace to be inspired. Music and voice-acting had been superb and cinematography was more than serviceable but I think manga is the preferred medium for this series.

That said it seems Orb is gaining some popularity in the West. Some reactions channels on YouTube have started it and Garnt promised he’d give it 3 episodes, just enough to finish this arc. I hope he likes it enough to promote it. Netflix has done a pretty shitty job so far advertising Orb but it’s currently the most watched show on Netflix Japan, 3 in HK and 6 in Taiwan with word of mouth alone. It should stand a chance in the West too since shows like Vinland Saga have had large followings.

I really didn’t expect Rafal to go out like that. Kid stood for his principles. He’s right, the truth can’t be suppressed. Funny how that dude was all like “Seneca and Socrates were heathens from 2000 years ago who didn’t know God. What good are their words?” as if Ptolemy from 1000 years prior was some Christian saint? Fools.

    10. Didn’t expect that to happen in this episode. So now we begin again with new characters seen in the intro? So was Rafal not the main character all along, then?

    11. Damn. Didn’t think Rafal would be joining Hubert this soon. Psychologically torturing your would-be torturer and fake-executing your would-be executioner are up there for the most badass things you can do before going lights out, at least.

    12. Holy fuck okay. I see you Chi. Even hitting with that 10 years later to really drive home the point. So someone in the OP is probably the next MC.

    13. wolfguardian72 on

Man, I hate the church. Just off anyone who doesn’t agree with your opinion? People should be allowed to live and learn through their own experiences and come to their own conclusions. (And I get it’s a period piece, but sentiment still stands)

    14. father snitched and is responsible for his kids death. hope we see future scenes of the thought driving him to his end. dude seemed unstable to begin with.

    15. I expected a time skip, but ehhm… not like this. Next episode can’t come soon enough.

    16. Holy shit, my rational thought is telling me Rafal really died and somehow he managed to pass on the ~~orb~~ baton to the next generation of astrology nuts. The priest probably might have a hand on it after seeing Rafal sacrificing himself for his beliefs.

But I have this tiny bit of wishful thinking that Rafal faked his own death. This adaptation really had us, anime-onlies, in the first 3 episodes. Can’t wait how the story will unfold from here. Must resist going to the source.
