    1. This is uncomfortable to watch, I must be some sort of masochist because I want more.

This feels like it would have benefitted from simuldub.

    2. People told us to go blind and this was… Idk how to summarize It but It was hard to watch, Idk if i even Will keep seeing It.

    3. This was BEAUTIFUL. It’s so refreshing to get a heavy story like this, and executed by Madhouse no less. All the characters have so much to sink your teeth into.

    4. Holy shit what a fire first episode. This seems kinda niche but it’s RIGHT up my alley.

For anime that was on top anticipating from women audience in the poll that was posted here a week ago, I didn’t really expect this kind of intense violence damn.

That was quite a fun good first episode and I really like good political drama anime so this one has really high potential.

Madhouse also doing good job with animation so far. I like it. They are really good at setting the tone here.

Great adaptation. The unrelenting tension was exactly what this material needs. I especially liked Nowak (the lead inquisitor)’s voice acting, he was scary as fuck.

    7. Incredible first episode.

Such an interesting anime that doesn’t even really feel like an anime, considering the super unique plot and setting.
OST by Kensuke Ushio was amazing as usual and that night sky scene was just beautiful. One of the strongest starts of the season.

    8. Humans are better than the other animals because we can be rational. Ironically, it’s our irrational desire of knowledge that made us more capable in rationality. Rafal could have rationally resisted his urge to look up to the stars and study theology but he followed his innate desire; Hubert risked death by studying the heliocentric model.

If the rest of the adaptation goes as well as this episode, this anime will stand the test of time like its source material.

      **stares at Oshi no Ko**

You know, these 2 episode premieres start losing meaning when EVERY ANIME starts doing it.

      1) Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

      2) Trillion Game

      3) Acro Trip

      **only lists 3 examples**

Why did we get 3 double episode premieres all of a sudden?

    10. Rafal thought he could live the easy life, only to get blackmailed by an older gentleman into helping him with his forbidden research.

Hubert mentioned “blackmailing” him, so I assume that Rafal’s notes alone were already compromising enough for him to have a ‘nice talk’ with the Church’s inquisitors.

Judging from Hubert’s appearance and the other scholar who’d been burned at the stakes (thought this was “Hubert” at first), Rafal might want to reconsider ratting him out. Although, I believe that Hubert’s theory of heliocentrism has already intrigued him more than enough to forego this.

I presume that Hubert’s eyesight declined after some torture sessions? Likely with the intent of keeping him from continuing this research.

    11. Damn, I feel like its been forever since I’ve heard Maaya Sakamoto in a main role that isn’t part of a franchise, you love to see it.

Also the OST here is really strong, Kensuke Ushio does it again.

I thought this episode captured the feel of the times and more importantly the mindset of scholars at the time pretty well, the excitement at conducting revolutionary research and learning the truths of the world harshly contrasted with the constant fear of defying the church (“defying” here being very vague, like accidently mentioning god in a bad context) at risk of horrific torture (like [this awful contraption](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pear_of_anguish) the episode opens on) and execution.

Rafal makes for a great protagonist for this kind of story, his desire to find reason in everything contrasted with his desire to make it through life as smoothly as possible, being right and fulfilled vs being reasonable and safe, it should make for some good drama and tension down the line.
