Hi artist! As I’m preparing to go to the US I thought it would be fun to talk about which art supplies are recommended to pick up when visiting the US. Would love your opinions!

    1. Artist and flight attendant here…..You can carry any tube paints in your carry on as long as each one is less than 3 oz. I take a whole little studio every time I travel, lol….i need all the things! Also…I found out how to make an diy art toolkit palette. Video is on my YouTube at kym crow art….The Nova color paints are excellent especially if you like a soft body acrylic. You can bring them back in your checked luggage. The QOR watercolor is very very pigmented! Twice as strong as any other brand!! They are excellent! Also on the soft pastels, I found the Townsend and Unison to be really scratchy and I really love a real soft pastel….my own preference and for those the Jack Richeson hand rolled extra soft are my very very favorite. Not all Jack Richesons are the same, it has to be hand rolled!…. Yes I have an art supply addiction and have tried just about every brand in every medium….i keep adding to this post as I’m watching the video….I have the Shinhan gouache…was a waste. Holbein so much better….

    2. I have Betty Frank's bundle and like it very much, but those others look good too. If you are into oil sticks you might want to check out R&F oil sticks, I use them a lot. 🙂

    3. I am just not going to recommend ANY SUPPLIES from Dan Smith! DaVinci watercolors are truly amazing and the best choice period. I have heard the DaVinci gouache does not dry truly opaque and is more like their watercolors. Cheap Joes is an Art supply store but they don’t have a lot of brick and mortar stores. I have to say their house brand American Journey has watercolor paint sticks and sooo much less expensive than DS! Could you order and deliver to the address where you are staying while in the US? Oh! You just said this exact same thing! I am looking forward to seeing more of your decisions! Til then, stay safe and enjoy your trip!

    4. Ok you live in Austria and the availability of Schminke art supplies at a much more reasonably priced than pretty much everywhere else! I believe that the same can be said of CaranD’ache art supplies too? I am curious about what supplies you need to buy while in the US? The Nova paints are a sweet deal and you can order an Artist “set” and add 1 or 2 colors a’la cart, it can be less expensive that way.

    5. If your going to a blick their own brand watercolor paper is nice , as for DaVinci I love their watercolors as for gouache I've heard it's more like a hybrid and pans well.( per Frugal crafter) been thinking of doing a artist toolkit pallet with it or Daniel Smith . Have a safe trip and fun shopping 😊.

    6. Daniel Smith yes yes yes. For paper, I use Bee Paper Company watercolor paper. It's not cotton but watercolors show up very vibrantly on it. It's 50 9×12 sheets for $10 at Walmart in the art supply aisle. Ive seen it in a couple art stores too. There is a picture of a red phonebooth on the cover. Also, panpastels are great. I use them on top of watercolors.
