    1. That was one hell of a cold and dark cliffhanger;

Aqua’s and Ruby’s segments talking about their past lives truly made me cry…. they simply can’t find happiness quite easy in their latest incarnations…

    2. Lumpy-Manager8580 on

Just when you think all of this is a lighthearted trip to Miyazaki, it hits you with a heartwrenching gut punch right at the end with an unthinkable reunion between Ruby and his “sensei”. Also to note that because of production issues, the final episode will air on October 6th at 7PM JST, with Re:Zero taking the usual Wednesday slot.

    3. mr_miscellaneous123 on

It’s cruel that both Aqua’s past and present lives were traumatized by the loss of their mothers. Makes Aqua’s immense guilt over Ai’s death even more tragic in hindsight.

    4. Ruby “Can I call you big sis” to Akane!

Kana is racking up the Ls so bad now even Mem-Cho doesn’t know who to root for!

Feel so bad for Kana this season. So many high hopes and they all get crushed…every…..single….episode!

    5. discuss-not-concuss on

      they playing dirty as hell

first with Kana getting depressed, then an Kana-Ai corpse and finally a real corpse

      About Gashapon

Gashapo, also known as gachapon, are a variety of vending machine-dispensed capsule toys. The term is onomatopoeic from the two sounds “gasha” (or “gacha”) for the hand-cranking action of a toy-vending machine, and “pon” for the toy capsule landing in the collection tray. The term can be used for both the machines themselves and the toys obtained from them.

“GASHAPON” is a registered trademark of Bandai since 2004.

I know most of you know what gacha is but I really only created this appendix so [I can show off this Aoi mini-figure that I wanted and got on the first try from a gachapon machine.](https://ibb.co/m8wMPZJ) — oldpier

About Tendouji It is now revealed that Sarina’s surname is “Tendouji” (天童寺). This is not an actual Japanese surname as far as I can tell.

Tendouji (Japanese pronunciation) is Tiantong Temple, a Buddhist temple located in Zhejiang, China. It is known to be the cradle of the “Soto” school of Japanese Buddhism.

About Kouhaku Uta Gassen The NHK KOhaku Uta Gassen a, lit. Red and White Song Battle), more commonly known simply as Kohaku, is an annual New Year’s Eve television special produced by Japanese public broadcaster NHK. It is broadcast live simultaneously on television and radio, nationally and internationally by the NHK network. The show ends shortly before midnight.

The program divides the most popular music artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. The “red” team is composed of all female artists (or groups with female vocals), while the “white” team is all male (or groups with male vocals). At the end of the show, judges and the audience vote to decide which group performed better.

The honor of performing on Kouhaku is strictly by invitation, so only the most successful singing acts in the Japanese entertainment industry can perform. Even today, a performance on Kouhaku is said to be a big highlight in a singer’s career because of the show’s wide reach.

Both teams had been neck-and-neck in total wins in the history of the competition until 2005 (28 wins each), after which the white team started to pull away with the current tally at 39 white team wins to 33 red team wins.

      Article 61.

An employer shall not employ a person under 18 full years of age between 10pm and 5am. 2. In the event the Minister of Labor deems it necessary, that Minister may change the hours under the preceding paragraph to 11pm and 6am, limited to a certain region or period. […]

      5. With respect to children employed pursuant to the provisions of Article 56, paragraph 2, the hours set forth in paragraph 1 shall become 8pm and 5am, and the hours set forth in paragraph 2 shall become 9pm and 6am.

    7. It’s just one cliffhanger to another isn’t it?

Last episode was the cliffhanger at the graveyard, this time it’s Ruby and Akane seeing the corpse in the cave with the dirty tag stating he was Ai’s fan.

I like the cliffhanger sequence though, since it motivates me to want to get through next week for it to be addressed, although next episode is the last for this season.

Of course, a series of cliffhangers is something other anime implement too, but I think Oshi no Ko uniquely pulls it off very well.

    8. mr_miscellaneous123 on

      > In all likelihood, he just fled some from some lady troubles, though

      Well, Ruby’s not wrong…

    9. mr_miscellaneous123 on

      > A bit of an age gap doesn’t matter.

Yeah, but if Goro was still alive, he’d be around 20-something plus 16, so around 30-40 years old. I think a 20-something age gap is a bit much. Not that Akane know this, of course.

    10. Aqua and Ruby both have a past without a mom, grow up without a mom. but still think it’s worse for Sarina.

Ruby calling Akane onee-chan is the sweetest thing in this episode, after that we get “reunion”. Ruby is always longing to meet her doctor, Gorou-sensei. Meeting him like this would be miserable, I mean finding a corpse in the dark night is already mood breaker.

what I cant get is Akane reaction. I mean I get it she’s the calm and collected person, I wouldnt expect her to scream but she’s so quick to turn to her detective mode. sasuga psychology phd and crimonology doctor and best girl Akane. also, she didnt forget to protect her sister Ruby.

well, if it was detective Akane, she’s probably already notice something is right with the timeline soon after forensic team verified the corpse. Aqua feeding her too much information about Gorou

    11. Now *that’s* a monkey’s paw if there’s one. Ruby wished to meet Doctor again, and there he is. Also, ED seems to reflect the development. Interesting…

    12. Akane secretely taking pictures of Kana during the trip was a funny side gag ending in her playing dress-up with Kana (at least in parts).

On the other end of the spectrum, they finally found Gorou’s corpse. Which I guess was hidden there by the murderer. But it reinforced my theory that the stars in their eyes is tied to their life goals. Ruby became an idol so she could find Gorou again. Seeing him dead is slowly but surely taking her star away, because it’s also making her lose her dream.

    13. RepulsiveRevenue8 on

Aqua revenge quest might be put on hold but Ruby revenge story have now just begun.

Miyako really love Ruby tho throwing ¥5 million for her like it’s nothing.

    14. BackyardEvergreen on

Ruby’s starry eye flickering during the reveal hints at things to come for her. Who knows how she’ll react now knowing the person she became an idol for has been decomposing in a dark cave the entire time

    15. What an excellent reveal, never thought it would be Ruby who found it. The loss of the glow in her eye is also heartbreaking, I wonder how the reveal will affect her going forward. I’m sure we’ll find out next episode, hopefully Aqua will be able to help her.

On a side note, my Aquane stocks rise, I think? Are they still together? Technically they didn’t break up, or did they? Whatever the case, Akane best girl, Ruby I’m so sorry, Kana you look great, Mem it’s ok to be old, Aqua I’m counting on you, little silver haired girl who are you, Miyako please marry me.

See you on in the finale which airs on the 6th!

    16. It just seems so sad that Ai gave birth to soulless children. If it weren’t these two’s souls that went into the children, I wonder what they would’ve been like.

    17. A flashback to their previous lives.

Ruby seems to be getting along with Akane.

      …what?

      Oof Kana.

Oh, is this where the hospital he worked at is?

Ah. Ruby recognises the place too.

And so with the 3 of them off filming the MV, Aqua and Akane have some time to themselves in Aqua’s neck of the woods.

Of course he wants to see his old hospital. And yup he was born here so he’s got the excuse.

Is he looking for his body?

And this would be his old house.

That’s still no small sum of money.

Akane is Kana’s biggest fan after all.

Ah. This is the scene in the OP.

Aqua’s already told Akane they were born here so there’s no real need to hide, or at least they have a plausible reason to know the area.

Yup, Gorou is _quite_ a few years older than Sarina.

Oh wait, Ruby doesn’t know Gorou is Aqua yet. Good thing she doesn’t though, I imagine Akane would be less enthusiastic to help her if she realised Ruby was after Aqua.

Well, she knows Gorou is dead at least.

    18. Kana jumpscare when Aqua thinks about what may happen to an idol.

And holy damn I swear there’s a shadow behind Goro during the Sarina death and confession scene.

    19. Aqua and Ruby’s past and current suffering. Kana’s taking L upon seing Akane and hearing Ruby and Akane while initially thinking that she can have a great time and lewd hand holding with a sweating Aqua. What did Kana do to deserve it? Lol. Akane reminding Aqua that Kana’s an idol and him thinking about what can happen if he make a mistake with Kana. Most of all, Mem not being a minor anymore and that corpse reveal. This episode has my feeling mixed up.

Every expressions of each character is really great. Can’t wait for the next episode.

    20. I like how when Ruby was imaging Goro she was picturing him still looking the exact same.

But if Goro hadn’t died he would be like, mid-fifties.

      Girl is freaky.

    21. Memcho reading the safety instructions when she is sitting between Kana and Akane lol (she wants to escape asap)

    22. That shot of Kana looking like the deceased Ai was creepy as fuck.

They didn’t hold back on the visuals this episode. Blood on the floor from the baby’s birth, the death of Ruby in her previous life, the dead Kana image, the dead body with that keychain the crow kept flying just far enough away with, to keep their chase going.

      That ENDING!!!

Detective Akane knows what’s up! That light fading from Ruby’s eye was so heartbreaking after all that happiness about her inspiration to be like AI

      A 9/10 episode and now a lengthy wait until October 6th… 😞

    23. * [**Memcho Stitch**](https://i.imgur.com/6a5xlq6.jpeg)

Can I just say [how much I love Anemone’s design?](https://i.imgur.com/bu6CpOr.jpeg) I don’t know why but the two-toned black and pink hair is doing it for me.

Poor Kana! She thought she would have Aqua all for herself but instead, Akane is joining in and [Ruby is already fawning all over her.](https://i.imgur.com/utkV93o.jpeg) After the massive wins last week, [Akane is already taking a massive L at the start of this episode.](https://i.imgur.com/vgisJCk.jpeg) xD

[Akane must’ve thought that she’s just sightseeing with Aqua](https://i.imgur.com/pgGXscB.jpeg) who’s on a nostalgia trip not knowing that [he’s actually checking out all of the places significant to his past life.](https://i.imgur.com/dN5Vx9j.jpeg) She even thought that [Aqua was looking for his old pet dog](https://i.imgur.com/otgOVfm.jpeg).

[That flashback scene of Gorou with Sarina on her deathbed](https://i.imgur.com/pdJcPnI.jpeg) was just heartbreaking. Whoever Sarina’s parents are, they definitely deserve to burn in hell for just abandoning her to die in a hospital like that. At least Gorou was there with her until the end. T_T

[We finally get a glimpse of the white-haired girl](https://i.imgur.com/NequMaY.jpeg) and she’s surrounded by crows. I know some people dislike it but I absolutely love the supernatural part of OnK. I’m sure there are other Japanese gods related to crows but Yatagarasu is the first one that comes to mind.

From Aqua revisiting his past life and heartbreaking flashbacks to [music video production!](https://i.imgur.com/GANji6g.jpeg) Miyako really is the best mom [for spending so much on B-Komachi even though they’re not their main money makers.](https://i.imgur.com/JimHqiu.jpeg)

[It’s hilarious how Aqua was expecting a fight](https://i.imgur.com/BIIct5u.jpeg) between Akane and Kana only for Akane [to go full-on fangirl with Kana](https://i.imgur.com/0izS6r9.jpeg). I love how [both Akane and Aqua won’t praise Kana directly too.](https://i.imgur.com/UsnYgNq.jpeg) xD

I just love how innocently Akane and Ruby’s little side mission started with [a crow stealing their room keys.](https://i.imgur.com/kXBdvEU.jpeg) We even get to see some cute bonding time between the two of them [with Ruby asking Akane about age gap romance.](https://i.imgur.com/iYiRN8w.jpeg) Poor Ruby. She really thought [she’d meet Sensei someday.](https://i.imgur.com/LIHzlZe.jpeg)

[Welp, Ruby got her wish. Just not the way she was expecting.](https://i.imgur.com/6DXqrGt.jpeg) That final scene was fucking dark. Also just to point out, Yatagarasu symbolizes guidance so the crow basically guided Ruby to the answer she’s been looking for. I am so excited for next week’s episode!

    24. Ahhhh Akane masterclass! Been waiting on she and Aqua trip to his hometown and as usual DG did a great job with it. I love seeing how fast Akane is to pick up on things and how she just instantly knows when something’s up with Aqua. She’s truly the driving force behind so many big reveals in this story. So many cute moments in this one with she and Aqua too

First of all, the fact we’re finding Gorou body in the anime and then everything that’s going on with the current story is hilarious. The way they time this stuff is so good. But as for the episode, I loved this walk down memory lane. It had never even occurred to me that both Sarina and Gorou were missing a mother’s love in their life and so them both being reincarnated with a loving mother was fitting.

Akane checking aqua temperature and trying to give him meds after he said he needed to into he hospital was so sweet. She just comes prepared with everything. Ruby calling her onee-chan just feels right because she does have that older sister vibe to her, encouraging Ruby to pursue her love interest who’s funnily enough her current bf 😂

Sarina flashbacks are always gut wrenching because how could you just leave your daughter in that hospital and never come check on her. Like what sort of evil POS do you have to be.. the only happiness she ever had was Gorou and Ai.. at least as Ruby she’s smiled and been happy most of the time.

Crow girl finally in the anime!!

And that ending, man what a cliffhanger to leave off on and we got to wait an extra 4 days for the finale on the 6th. Season 3 announcement better be coming as well!!

    25. Definitely the darkest cliffhanger since the very first episode. Almost felt like a parallel to that.

    26. Guardianthrowitaway7 on

WELP I will be reading the manga once this season ends. Can’t keep waiting for the anime
