I’ve caught up after a brief hiatus. This is one of my favorite parts of the current arc.
I had myself a Honeycrisp apple around lunch time in recognition of Holoday 😆.
*”If you cower in fear, I’ll devour the both of you.”*
The line I was waiting for in this arc!
The transformation was really cool in this episode. The whole scene with everyone riding on Holo’s back was great.
*“I suddenly feel like a mother.”*
Another one of my favorite moments. I just like how open Holo gets with her transformation at this point in the series if there’s a reason for it. Lawrence has changed a lot in this regard too (as far as being comfortable around her in either form).
**The key takeaway from this episode:**
What we see near the end when Elsa leaves. There is a parallel here. Holo recognizes (with Lawrence’s help) that she couldn’t do anything about Yoitsu and she had no power over what happened – this assists in nullifying her guilt about it. However, there is a village she *can* still save and it’s why they decide to turn around and help Tereo.
This arc is still my favorite so far. This anime only confirms that for me.

No Merchant’s Corner today – no economics.
But that said, I’ve been particularly looking forward to this episode because it’s one of the most important episodes in the entire early story to Holo’s whole character arc.
Elsa, tired of Tereo’s treatment towards her, decides to escape the town. Halfway into their journey, they see the full scale of the enemy coming for the town. Faced with these absolutely gargantuan odds and monstrous opponent, Elsa ends up deciding she can’t abandon the town after all and runs back to the town to fight a hopeless battle.
That parallel’s Holo’s own story, and she can see it. She had left her own hometown, bored and wanting to explore the world. Not long after that, a monstrous, undefeatable opponent – the Moon-Hunting Bear – came and leveled her hometown, and everyone fled.
What if she had known? Would she have returned to fight the hopeless battle? Would she have chosen certain death over abandoning her hometown and friends? Unlike Elsa, for Holo, that question can never be answered. She was never even offered that chance. The first time she’s learning of her town’s destruction is hundreds of years later after it’s far too late.
This episode is the one where she finally confronts those regrets head-on. It’s the one where she finally learns to accept that, no, there *wasn’t* anything she could have done. That sometimes it’s just her fate played out that she never got the opportunity to return to her hometown and fight.
Understanding and accepting this is a huge step that Holo had to take in order to continue her journey with Lawrence peacefully and with a clear goal in mind, rather than being obsessed with the possibility of saving Yoitsu or drowning in her own regrets. And maybe, if the stars line up right, she can save some villages she *can* help.
Looking forward to the finale next week.

Holo in her wolf form will never not be majestic, always glad we get to see more of that.
I’m happy to see they’re coming back to help out the village, especially using both their skills to do so as well.
They’re keeping the plan pretty secret which means it’ll probably go well…I hope.
I know we’ve got two couples basically on the run and trying to escape a town…but look at all the lewd handholding! That’s the real pagan magic going on in this episode!
I KNEW the secret exit would come out of that cave. Truyeo’s cave, though whether the Snake God actually existed or not, it’s a convenient escape route. Besides, Lawrence is already hooked on the Church of Holo.
Evan, I understand the appeal of watching the Holo strip-show, but you’re literally standing next to your girlfriend so have some class. The only one who gets to enjoy watching Holo strip is Lawrence (especially since he has to handle her clothes), and the only thing more gloriously divine than Holo’s naked body is watching her in her majestic wolf form.
Nothing more epic than riding Holo! So proud of Evan for holding on tight to Elsa to make sure she didn’t fall off!
Yeah…that’s a lot of people coming to Enberch, with the church in tow. Tereo is basically screwed. I mean, it’s fun to imagine Holo tearing through them, but that wouldn’t really solve anything. Even despite how they were treating him, though, Even still thought of helping the town.
Holo has given Elsa a lot to think about when it comes to her faith, but whether she’s a God or a Wolf, Holo is just…Holo, which means Elsa needs to be true to herself and what she inherited from Father Franz. Even if that means returning to a village that doesn’t deserve her and leaving Evan behind. But prospective merchant Evan weighs the costs and gains and knows the emotional cost of leaving Elsa is one he can’t live with.
Ticked Holo is effective in both wolf and human form. Elsa and Evan are going back to fight for their village despite everything, so what does that say about Holo who wasn’t there for Yoitsu? Would she have made a difference, beyond adding to the epic that is her legend? But right now she’s alive and the past is the past, and she can’t dwell on “What If’s,” not when she has the life she has with Lawrence (which includes sitting on top of him while naked). And that hug from Lawrence makes it all worth it.
Holo and Lawrence can’t just abandon Elsa and Evan after all this, so the only solution seems to be helping Tereo. But how? It would take a miracle…good thing they have a Wise Wolf who, when it comes to wheat, can literally perform miracles.
I’m really enjoying this arc. It’s been a lot of fun.
I knew they wouldn’t just resolve things with running away and not getting the chance to flex Lawrence’s merchant skills.
Oh good, I hadn’t completely forgetting how this arc ended, it’s been so very long since I read the novel and I didn’t remember them just fleeing.

Praying for a miracle of a second season! Love this show, love seeing this arc finally animated but I want more! Hopefully it will be just a season finale next week.
The “I feel like a mother” bit was a favorite from the book. Glad it made it into the anime.
Well them returning to try and help the village is certainly better but I honestly would not have minded if they had run away.
Also Holo’s fur looks really fluffy to hold, lucky people slept under her tail.
Of course we’d like to worship you, Holo! I’m pretty sure that some of us have already been doing so for over a decade by now. And the Church of Holo will only grow stronger after she’s performed her miracle in the next episode.
I’m curious about the precise sort of miracle that Holo will make happen. Lawrence’s reaction had me think that it might be something along the lines of Jack and the Beanstalk, since his upward-looking gaze seemed to imply that the two seeds in Holo’s hand had considerably grown.
Also, Lawrence asking if Holo had been hoping for a compliment was a direct reference to this past scene: [“Where are your praises!”](https://imgur.com/a/qWED9yy)
It’s cool how they connected running away from the village when it was in danger with Holo’s experience hearing about the Bear destroying Yoitsu after the fact. Elsa made the self-sacrificial decision that Holo wished she had the chance to make, but rather than let her and Evan go to their doom, Lawrence and Holo decide to help out…and maybe make a few bucks out of it as well.
Huh. That’s interesting.
And she’s back in her wolf form.
Right, they’re safe for now.
Uh oh, here comes trouble.
Right, well, time for her to go back.
And he’s going with her.
Now Holo’s got an “I told you so” moment.
So, what’s she going to do?
They’ve caught back up with the 2 of them.

Even though I thought it’d be nice to see fictional characters doing the reasonable albeit boring thing, with there still being two episodes until the end, I didn’t actually expect they’d flee and I guess I was right.

Maybe it’s just because I’ve watched the original a few times, and this is new and fresh, but I think this arc is my favorite.
Can someone explain to my dumb ass why Holo got so mad in that one scene, enough to even kill Lawrence potentially?

When they found the exit of the cave [I was genuinely expecting they’d be ambushed by the people from the village.](https://i.imgur.com/gOB6DCy.jpeg) Thank god that’s not what happened and that the cave they exited [is the hole Lord Truyeo dug long ago.](https://i.imgur.com/WXxVW7f.jpeg) That’s actually pretty funny considering their circumstances.
