I don’t really think authors intentionally give their manga a bad ending. Its more of an actual turn of events leading upto the ending while remaining faithful to the characters. Sometimes it manages to catch the essence of the leading story but sometimes it fails to do so.
I really liked AOT ending, for example, but it wasn’t well received among the fandom.
