Amazing first episode to start off the series

Well goddamn! We finally got an official explanation as to why Goku was so tiny until he showed back up at the 23rd Budokai.

Edit: dunno why I’m being downvoted. People assume everyone has watched Super Hero.

NGL, I still remember the news of Daima getting revealed and pretty much everyone hating on it for reasons(not adult Goku, not a Super continuation, etc.). It was only after Toriyama’s death where people began to say they were planning to watch this.

Really good first episode! The humor of the series is still here, and I like that they are trying to expand on already mentioned tidbits from the OG show, with the Demon Kingdom, Dabra, Babidi, etc.

Animation looks really polished, so can’t wait for more !

Reactions as I watch **SPOILERS AHEAD**:

Holy *shit* the amount of exposition in those first 15 minutes was insane. Enjoyable but there was so much lore dumping it was a little too much (despite me loving lore).

The Demon Realm also has Dragon Balls… which continues to make the “Dragon Balls” completely fucking overused. I know that’s the name of the show but wow, with every new season/series they just keep getting reduced to such trivial trinkets.

Namekians being alluded to being from The Demon Realm and the Namekians on Namek having “escaped” it seems interesting. Hopefully that leads to Piccolo becoming relevant again and possibly taking up the King Of The Demon Realm title.

I like the new character designs a lot. Very vibrant, colorful and uniquely their own. Also love that there’s a weird reality warping gateway between worlds and not something someone can (so far) just Instant Transmission to at will like Otherworld.

“White” Wishes and “Black” Wishes are a fun, very subtle nod to the Shadow Dragons. But also not a fan of the “Wish” being to just simply wish the Z Fighters to be young. I was genuinely hoping for a more creative, unique concept behind the shrinking of them.

There being a near infinite amount of “worlds” in Universe 7 alone seemingly is *batshit fucking crazy*. Also interesting to hear that Dr. Arinsu followed after Babidi & Dabura. Which means there could be future use for her in Super (barring she doesn’t die during Daima’s events) that she set up prior.

Also loved the explanation of Kibito & Supreme Kai’s defusing. Simple, effective and basically what we all expected to have happened.

You can tell the animation team took the Super criticisms to heart *deeply* because that Goku & Vegeta fight sequence was *fucking phenomenal*. One of the best short bouts we’ve gotten from Dragon Ball for only being about 2-3 minutes long. Some aspects still looked a tiny bit flat/less flashy but still fantastic overall.

The gathering of the Dragon Balls by force scene was also super, super fucking cool. I love the idea that other more ancient and powerful Namekians can simply call on the Balls of other Namekian’s creation and then revive them because they’re so much more powerfully capable.

Was not a fan of King Kai who typically oversees and watches everything just simply deciding to ignore Gomah & Degesu’s assault on the Lookout. You would think he would be watching over his galaxy and warning everyone of what was happening there.

Also the de-aging scene of the Z Fighters was lowkey kind of fucking terrifying when you take more than 10 seconds to think about it. Especially coupled with the imagery of Bulma dropping her wine glass in stark realization something’s wrong after bringing up the Dragon Balls shouldn’t be active.

Overall a genuinely fun opening episode from start to finish. I’d easily rate this an 8/10. A great beginning for a new series. Here’s hoping it continues to keep up this level of animation throughout the series and this episode wasn’t a one-off. If it holds up I can easily see this being an all-timer piece of Dragon Ball media.

*THAT BEING SAID*, not a fan of sticking this series between Z & Super as a “lost” story. This adventure never being brought up in Super or touched upon makes this just another weird timeline placement problem. Short of a spell completely wiping the memories of everyone at the end of the series which is what gives Beerus the dream of the Super Saiyan God. I’d be fine with that resolution despite being kind of flimsy. I say that’s most likely given the trailer for the show clearly had someone casting a spell but that was never shown here.

Lmao the Joe Biden Namek didn’t shower for a thousand year but still want to bring his toothbrush.

I wonder would this change all the VA, except probably for Goku as she voiced young Goku… Gohan and Goten. I didn’t look too deep at this.

Welcome back Dragon Ball

It’s almost incredible how completely felt like an episode of Dragon Ball and not feel like an episode of Dragon Ball at the same time.

The direction, the layouts, the cinematography (oh man the cinematography) made me feel like I was watching a show from a different series.

What a surreal first episode. Can’t wait for more

Okay first impressions is I liked it! I’m glad to see DB get a huge anime like this again and I’m excited for what’s next.

Now this will serve as **SPOILERS AHEAD**

Gotta say I liked the Buu Saga recap at the start especially since it was essentially a highlights reel of the entire thing lmao, I am wondering about the time placement though since this is very very much after Z but wayyyy before Super and it has some retcons about the Potara thing again along with Namekians are demons again so I’m just assuming because this is Toriyama’s full story again that it makes sense there would be some inconsistencies with him working with Toyotaro in Super.

Overall I’m happy to see a very interesting first episode although admittedly I am shocked that it takes so far back before Super and along with some lore inconsistencies that I can forgive but am somewhat bothered but all in all great first ep I’m hyped to see more.
