    1. I think the reason why I enjoy Senya’s arc more than Jinka’s is because there’s a much more balanced relationship between the primary romantic pair. Tsukiko being a drunk tomboy is one thing, but she’s also constantly finding meaningful ways to be involved without becoming a weakness in the party. It helps that the symbolic weak fighter is Shinsuke too since his abilities lie elsewhere.

Speaking of Shinsuke, I feel like he’s going on a path to Buddhahood lol. He’s much more enlightened than the Dangaishu monks who he once admired/hated. He might also be the first person to discover that humans are toxic sustenance for katawara much like addictive drugs. Shinsuke’s changing history in their world while just being himself. I wonder if his weakened Arabuki is going to be enough though, since half of its powers went to Tsukiko’s lightning blade.

I didn’t know there wasn’t gonna be an episode last week, but I’m glad for it because otherwise I would’ve been *hella* late to this thread thanks to the Re:Zero S3 premiere lol.

    3. Can someone please remind me who is Kokugetsusai and why he’s the key to defeating Jinka? I straight up don’t remember who this character is, and it doesn’t help that he doesn’t have a body.

The kindness Shinsuke shows the demon in the village is one of the highlights of the series, for me.

It isn’t the perfect answer to the world’s suffering, because it’s still backed by power. Not Shinsuke’s personal power, but Hanatora protecting him. He hasn’t escaped the truth that when people use power to hurt others, it’s extremely difficult to get them to stop without imposing greater power.

Yet Shinsuke is still accomplishing something here, and is going out on a limb you rarely see anyone else do. Not even Tama, back when she was fighting for justice. She had lofty ideals, and requested demons and bandits change their ways, yet she had no way of making that happen other than relying on Jinka’s power for force.

Shinsuke understands the power of showing kindness. Of having empathy for anyone. Because that actually did change a demon here: By not just demanding they change after trapping them, but providing food and being civil, and letting them learn they want a life beyond eating humans. Treat someone like a person and they’ll respond like a person. It’s the essence of rehabilitive justice. The concept that humans have a poison in them, where eating them makes you want to do it more, is a heavy-handed but powerful metaphor for sin.

This solution was right in front of everyone the whole time. And yet nobody but Shinsuke was ever strong enough to go for it.

Like a lot of things in the show, it ties into all the themes about humans and katawara, and what power does. As Senya remarks upon, that empathy is parallel to how Shinsuke helped him become human. But Senya, unfortunately, hasn’t fully worked through his issues around his power.

If you’ve been paying attention, you might have noticed that while Senya overcame his issues with what he can do with power — recognizing the need to fight sometimes, and understanding that power doesn’t just hurt people — but he’s still never gotten over the potential harm he brings to others by being near them. So yeah, sadly he’s still gotta go through that painful arc of leaving others behind out of a desire to protect them.

But it’s hard to blame him when everyone around him is reinforcing that view of him. Not just Yazen saying he’ll lose control, but the Mountain Goddess too — she defines his use and worth by his power, saying that’s how he should accomplish all his goals. This ties into the Mountain Goddess’s general worldview, that we’ve seen in the requests she’s made of various characters: She believes in the natural order of things, that might makes right. She dislikes anything that violates that natural order, be it organizations that control and command those with power, or cheats like Kokugetsusai’s gourd. No wonder she wants to take it away; it’s explicitly to allow an ordinary human to fight alongside those with power.

Senya wonders if his only use is his power. But we also have an explicit contradiction of that, where the Void People explain that the reason they want him is for his fate power. That’s an interesting idea that I don’t think we can dig into too deep yet, though at the very least the stakes have been clarified now. It’s been hinted at for a while, but now we have a more full picture: They came from the past to gather entities with strong fate power such that they can avert the fate of their homeland to be struck by a meteor.

Again, probably can’t dig into this thematically yet without seeing what’s done with it by the story, but I can at least say I think this idea is fascinating. Just a really cool villain setup and turn for the narrative to take.

    5. So things are not looking good what with the Void People having Nadare in their forces and even the Mountain Goddeess isn’t doing too hot.

I’m not surprised the Mountain Goddess figured out Kokugetsusai was in Taizan, and Tsukiko defying her is enough to make her rage and nearly kill them all…though Kokugetsusai absconding with Tama and Tsukiko takes the wind out of her sails enough that she realizes how little she has left in the tank.

I want to punch Yazen and Kuzunoha in the face, but Yazen has the information the groups needs. It’s a good thing Tsukiko didn’t give away the urn, because they’ll need it to save Jinka, and the best way to break the barrier is Senya’s old acquaintance Banshou-Oh!

I’m not sure I’m really following the mechanics of the Void Peoples’ time travel, but the import thing is they’re planning to build an army to combat Senya’s MC status and are trying to find a way to stop a meteor from destroying them.

Aw, look at Shinsuke putting in the work to redeem
any renegade katawara Senya and Tsukiko being him! Sure, Hanatora keeps him safe, but actually getting through to them and teaching them that eating humans doesn’t need to be the answer. It’s no wonder Senya is so in awe of him and Hanatora wants to hook up with him. But Shinsuke is just a guy doing what he can and still thinking of the
      love of his life.

I wouldn’t mind Tsukiko getting aggressive with Senya, but she just cares about him so much she wants him to be safe. Just like Senya wants to keep Tsukiko safe even if it means bailing on her with Nau in tow to keep the village safe from the Void People…and with the knowledge he might lose his very sense of self in the process.

But of course Tsukiko isn’t going to leave Senya alone, and thanks to Taizan taking over as Regional God, Shinsuke and Zanzou are free! Shinsuke is back in the game! And rather than stay stuck in Taizan, Kokugetsusai will just possess Hanatora’s body! Shizuka Itou doing a dirty old man voice!

It’s nice that Tama wants to be a proper couple with Jinka, but he’s getting more and more out of control and the Void People now have Bansho-Oh…so it’s not going to get any easier.

New ED! Pretty nice visuals, especially seeing Jinka again, how far the cast has come, Senya and Tsukiko handholding, and all the love Tsukiko feels for Senya!

    6. And here I thought Yazen and Kuzunoha were somewhere super secret. [They’re literally just in a little house](https://i.imgur.com/pKwwAT2.jpeg) somewhere inside the Mountain Goddess’ territory. I know they’re working with the Mountain Goddess for now but I’m still very suspicious.

So we finally know why [the Void people are after Jinka and Senya.](https://i.imgur.com/yrqHRSg.jpeg) They need their power so they can save their homeland from a meteor strike and the only way to do that is to pretty much change their fate.

[That little interaction between Shinsuke and Hanatora was cute.](https://i.imgur.com/je7iCxE.jpeg) I’m sorry Hanatora, there’s no way Shinsuke will be yours considering [he still has Shakuyaku in his heart.](https://i.imgur.com/Az2pBHX.jpeg) Shinsuke so far has been an amazing character, [our boy has grown so much](https://i.imgur.com/8AZER5M.jpeg) ever since we met him.

[Shinsuke and Zanzou are finally free](https://i.imgur.com/ydpyqWh.jpeg) but it looks like that means Kokugetsusai is now stuck with Taizan because he’s now the regional god. I didn’t think he’d end up [jumping to Hanatora’s body though.](https://i.imgur.com/fgGV8Lk.jpeg). I’m not sure how I feel about that.

[Ah fuck. The Void People got to Banshou-oh first.](https://i.imgur.com/9cFc3nh.jpeg) I wonder if they used the same technique to make the other gods go crazy but instead, they made him obey them. Senya might need to free Banshou-oh from the Void People first.
