Thoughts on how I colored it?

    1. I believe you have 2 main things to improve upon:

      * Try to clean up your sketch a bit before coloring, I am not saying you should do a super clean lineart but simply erasing some of the scratchy lines can help your coloring become more clear and shine more!

      * Try to understand your lighting and the colors better by utilizing a bit of reference whilst you color. This way you will be able to more reliably add different tones. Try to take into consideration that skin for example is generally warmer in color when hit by light, the blush will be on the pinkier side instead of just darker when shadows are involved, just darkening things will make it look pale and washed out. By using reference you’ll have an easier time.

That’s what I can say for now!

You can replace the messy lineart for a painting style that features lots of brush strokes. This way, you can adapt the effect of “messy lineart feels better than clean lineart” to colour.
