Just happened to come across this article today, and seemed like a perfect compliment to the interview with Alya’s original Japanese VA that I [posted yesterday](https://old.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1ftvj42/alya_sometimes_hides_her_feelings_in_russian/).

It’s really interesting to read about her approach towards the Russian lines from the perspective of someone who knew Russian as her first language like Alya. Also very sweet that she called this role a dream job.

(Note: there are some *mild* spoilers for the “favorite scenes” question.)

I never knew she was Russian since I only knew her from her main voice acting role of Ash Ketchum from Pokemon. Great for her she got to have a role in a new anime to utilize her language

    3. pretty cool that both The Jap and English VA have some background with Russian and aren’t speaking this super broken Russian like when you hear an “American Foreign Exchange Student” speaking English

      > Sometimes I would call my mom because she was born and raised in Russia. So I’m like, ‘Wait, does this sound right? This doesn’t feel natural to me.’ And she would help me a little bit, or confirm that everything that was written was actually fine.

While I’m in an entirely different industry, I can’t imagine calling my mom for work advice as an adult. Just the thought has me cringing, so props to her for going through with that.
