sorry Akane, but Aqua-Kana is my favourite ship

flashback to the Director casually talking about revenge for Ai. kinda called it that he wasn’t in the know, but knew from his time with Aqua

it took us 1 month, but the cocktease for Aqua is FINALLY HERE! He absolutely decimated that scene with the ***love bite*** to Himekawa, even sucking the audience into his black hole performance

    5. ObvsThrowaway5120 on

Damn, Aqua’s good. The way he’s able to seamlessly blend those adlibs with the script and move in such a way as to highlight Kana was impressive. Kana really shone. Pretty cool to see what she can do.

As if Kana didn’t have enough shit to worry about as a child star, she had to deal with her mom and all that bullshit. The woman really failed as a parent.

The director’s totally right about Aqua solely out of revenge and feeling immense guilt when he’s actually enjoying himself. I guess turning acting into something painful and hated is one solution. Personally, I’d have chosen therapy…

    6. Akene simp switch on!

her line in this episode is so little. tbh, I expect Sayahime scene to be more dramatic like episode 1, I guess this arc still not completed. next week for Akane acting.

and Aqua scream! I mean it’s not acting anymore, bro let the emotion pouring, he already master PTSD acting technique. I hope he would not leave any kiss mark on Himekawa. ngl, that ~~kiss~~ bite pretty hawt.

    7. ModieOfTheEast on

Everyone talking about Kana and I get it. Was a nice scene, but what got me more was them not slowly fading into the ending to truly hammer home that moment for Aqua. Dude can’t even get a break. Last time he had to play a stalker and this time he has to play a person who loses their love right before their eyes. Directors are really giving it to him.

    8. They did such a good job leading into the ending theme this whole season that it was genuinely jarring hearing it kick up without the lead in.

Kana’s been my favorite character almost the whole way through but holy shit the way they did that Aqua scene at the end j~~ust about outshined it~~, he was straight up an eclipse. Amazing episode.

    9. Fantastic and intense episode.

The return of Arima Kana was great, seeing her enjoy herself is a pleasure to watch. It also brings back Akane’s greatest reason to become a great actress. Their duels will be great, but Akane must stop fangirling first, wish her the best as I would also fangirl.

Seeing Akane helping Aqua with his anxiety was awesome and again reinforced my admiration for her as best girl. I believed we’d get a focus on her battle with Kana, but what we got was much more intense.

The change in focus to Aqua was surprising, and the reveal of his style of acting heartbreaking. Allowing the pain and guilt to overtake him will allow him to put on incredible displays but at a hefty price. I hope our girls will be able to help him, but as it stands Aqua will allow his own hatred to tear him apart for his goal.

His sudden outburst of emotion at the end was incredible, but understanding the cost makes it jaw dropping to watch.

    10. God I love revenge plots, this is the Aqua I’ve been waiting to see.

I just hope that there isn’t some clique “forgive your enemy” type thing that happens later on to get in the way of the revenge being carried out.

    11. Woah that ending to the episode that contrasts the positivity of seeing Kana succeed earlier. Aqua rejects Taishi’s suggestion to take a break from acting and concentrate on therapy.

Then the music is suspenseful and sinister with the flashback frames and the tint of red shown in the acting parts to presumably portray internal rage. The animators and staff all knew their job to leverage every element for the sequence’s effect.

    12. Necromancer2k8 on

So Kana starts the episode in L mode from her just blending in and not taking the lead to express her true acting ability, ad-libs her way to a W when the eyes shine bright, flashbacks her way to a L then finishes with an awesome W!

Poor Aqua, the only way to truly act is to use hate and revenge as motivation. The eyes and facial expressions the last few minutes of the episode were fantastic.

Another stellar episode. A 9.5/10 as the animation, direction and music were all top notch. the missing .5 is because Melt didn’t have much screentime.

    13. DidYouReadTheNIRC on

Akane: She was even worse back then.

Aqua: Yeah, I wanted to strangle her

Akane: I wanted her to strangle me too

Aqua: That’s not what I said

Now the real shipping war of Kana and Akane vs Akane and Kana will begin

    14. A weird hill to die on, but this episode really should’ve been named “Contrasting Structure”, even if it is a bit on the nose.

So we spend like more than half of the ep setting up Kana and her backstory, ending the first half with her having the time of her life, acting unrestricted and with her crush supporting her fully.

Somewhere along the line they slid in that bit about the contrasting structure. How Aqua’s cool acting by contrast enhances Taili’s fiery passion.

Which leads to the big reveal of Aqua tapping into his pain. That acting is painful to him. That the normal amount enjoyment is something to be guilty of. Ending that Acting isn’t fun, its his form of revenge, borderline self harm. It wouldn’t have hit so hard without setting up Kana’s pure and innocent joy in acting.

    15. Aqua: Why am I here just to suffer

Holy crap I am a full-fledged Akane fan but Kana really was very cute this episode.

and for a Kana episode, it felt too short for me after that watching episode 7 dedicated for Akane

    16. Recover from trauma? Nonsense, the edge and angst only serve to make Aqua stronger. Only way to cure that PTSD is getting that sweet revenge, baby.
