Some of you may know of Megami Magazine, a Japanese publication launched in 1999 which focuses on bishoujo media. In modern times it is known for its copious “official art” pinups that come with each monthly issue; they’re often posted to this subreddit, currently courtesy of /u/Abysswatcherbel. These pinups are usually of female characters from various currently airing anime. Some popular series continue to appear from time to time even after they're done airing. In a few conspicuous cases, a series may appear continuously in almost every issue for a long period of time. Infamously, The Quintessential Quintuplets has been featured 50 times in Megami so far; this has been chronicled in the “Quints Watch” by /u/cppn02. Nevertheless, there is another series which far exceeds its record, and has appeared in almost every issue of Megami for the last 12 years: Girls und Panzer. Inspired by the Quints Watch (and not by this comment from /u/Chaotic-warp requesting it which I only found after the fact), this is a record of every GuP character appearance in Megami Magazine pinups as of the most recent issue #292 (2024-09).

First, here is an album of all the Megami Magazine appearances in chronological order.

    Next, some fun facts:

    • GuP has appeared in 138 issues of Megami Magazine since #150 (2012-11), when the TV series started airing.
    • Absent only 5 issues, GuP has appeared in every issue since its first appearance. Its longest streak has been the 83 issues from #211 (2017-12) up to now, #292 (2024-09).
    • While it has appeared in 138 issues, there are 140 posters: two issues had double features. They were #158 (2013-07), after announcement of the theatrical film, and #275 (2023-04), to commemorate the 10th anniversary.
    • 84 unique characters appear across all the prints, 5 of which are, to my knowledge, currently unnamed.
    • Of the 37 total current members of the Ooarai cast, only 3 have never been featured: Akebi from Duck Team and Tsuchiya and Hoshino from Leopon Team.
    • Koala Forest Academy’s Wallaby, first appearing in the most recent issue, #292 (2024-07), is the very first featured character from a team which Ooarai has never faced.
    • Unsurprisingly, Miho appears the most often, 42 times. Darjeeling is the only non-Anglerfish member in the top 5, edging out Hana by one appearance.
    • Only 10 appearances are solo. At maximum, 24 characters appeared together for the 10th anniversary print in #275 (2023-04).
    • Unlike many Megami prints these days, GuP ones almost always have backgrounds. In fact, when they don’t, I believe it’s invariably because they’re the cover art.
    • Megami has sister publications, such as Megami Magazine DELUXE, which also sometimes have unique prints. So far I have been able to track down 3 in DELUXE (one was from a month where GuP was on break from Magazine), but I am unsure of the total scope of non-Magazine appearances of GuP.

As a bonus, here is a force-directed graph of each character’s appearances. Bigger circles = more appearances and thicker links + closer position = more shared appearances. It’s fun to look at, but doesn’t say much you wouldn’t already expect. Characters generally hang out with their teams, with captains appearing with each other and other teams relatively more often.

    1. Damn, this is some good content. Was topless Yukari actually the first one??? Amazing.

Also Alice up there in the top 10 while being one of the most recent additions…

Edit: Wait a second, what do you mean Sasaki Akebi has no appearances?????
