It’s romance and drama galore. And I love it. What better time to return to anime than this really.

**Roshidere** is such a beautiful rollercoaster of.. characters? Truly feels like jumping from a character ship to another from episode to episode or even within the same episode like that recent meme.

I’m greatly liking it, it’s so aesthetically pleasing, with a tinge of cultured fanservice (the ep1 feet gif was one of the main reason I stopped my depressed induced anime watching hiatus) and definitely drama.

      .

**Gimai Seikatsu / Days with my stepsister** is honestly the most… pleasantly shocking series of all. I’m seriously bewitched even? No, it’s something more… calm. I feel as if something soothing and warm wraps around my heart when watching it.

I really, really love the overall mood, atmosphere, characters’ cadence while talking, their thoughts and monologue.

The way it’s storytold, the execution alone made me feel so… comfortable, at ease, relaxed.

I realized it was the.. tinge of melancholy completing it all. No wonder I felt so comfortable.

Just like how Made in Abyss truly made me feel that ‘warm darkness’, here it’s something lighter, a ‘comfortable melancholy’.

Last episode was something else. With just an action of the sister, I felt like so much, so… much was conveyed. To the point I had to rely on comment section to try to properly understand as much as there was behind her choice.

I have no words to describe it. It’s so… special. It feels so special. Even if I try to put into words my feelings, I still cannot completely understand why I feel so at ease while watchinig it. The depth of the characters is something that seriously move and touch me.

It gives me a feeling of it being so… profound, deep. It makes me think, a lot. I like it.

Yeah. I really love it. If such melancholy is felt in the LN as well, I’ll very likely jump on it soon.

      .

Likewise, I was also really shocked with **Love is indivisble by Twins / Koi wa Futago de Warikirenai**. I definitely didn’t expect such enjoyable start to begin with.

The multiple pov storytelling is something I like a lot, and in this case, it’s fantastic. I believe I’m in for some real good triangle love drama. I really missed that. The emotions, the way the show made me empathize with the twins… it was shockingly good.

      .

As for **Makeine**, well, I’m a source reader, so I’m cheating. But it doesn’t change the fact that I love the theme so much, and can’t be helped but be moved greatly by how beautiful the adaptation is.

I’m so happy it’s second place, I’m stupidly grinning.

Damn. I… have seriously been loving romance so much as of late.

I haven’t even finished Umineko VN, which I had put on hold due to real life in 2017, but I can’t help but be reminded of this line.

“Without love, it cannot be seen.”

I still don’t know nor remember perhaps, what couldn’t exactly been seen.

But I somewhow feel like I understand.

I truly am worshipping romance. Fictional romance that is.

      .

I still have to catch up with **Shoushinmin Series / Become Ordinary**, but first episode truly reminded me of Hyouka indeed, as expcted from the same author. Though rather than romance, it feels closer to mystery.

      .

**Isekai Shikkaku** on the other hand.. is weird. I like it, that’s the first thing I need to say.

But to be honest, I feel… so much wasted potential. It feels like the show is somewhat… comedic?

I love, I seriously love with all my being tragic romance, so, starting with the double suicide, his facial expression that is just a little worse than mine in portraying ‘exhaustion’, his desire to die, but to die with Sacchan…

All checks my boxes so hard it would be harder for me to not like it. That’s why I’m not too sold on the direction. It’s still the start, but as a tragiromance seeker, I hope such element will become more relevant.

I can feel so much potential for me to greatly love this show… I hope it will be more romance and tragedy focused. I’m glad that in last episode the… ‘harem’ didn’t increase at least.

    2. Week 3 of Summer and I’m not impressed lol.

First place **Oshi no Ko** didn’t even break 3k (the first time since Winter last year for that to happen).

Surprise of the week is **Makeine** making 2nd place. Having a blast with the show so far and it looks like it will be a top 3 contender this season.

**Nokotan** losing over 3.5k karma (in part due to the release situation) which is more than any other show even had this week must be some kind of record.

    3. realrimurutempest on

Brutal karma drop for our Deer God due to release shenanigans. Im happy to see the gorgeously animated Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! in the top 2.

    4. Abysswatcherbel on

Top 3 this week is an homage to the old tale of Blue hair girls vs silver hair girls

And please, zoom in and read the subtitles for the Vtuber banner, then add it to your watch list

    5. Genshin_WhiteKnight on

**Makeine** starting out strong with a great premiere! **Elusive Samurai** had a really good premiere too and has been maintaining its quality so far, should see its karma rise over the next few weeks. I’m really enjoying both of these shows. Meanwhile deer got murdered in the banner profile and karma score with that 3.5k drop. Oof.

**Mayonaka Punch** seems kind of underwatched atm for how fun it has been. It’s an anime original about Youtuber vampires from the team that did Ya Boy Kongming!, worth checking out if you enjoyed that.

Also, two notably great shows that aren’t even on the ranking list: **YATAGARASU: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master** and **Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction**. Both shows are continuing from the previous season so they already have quite a few episodes out.

    6. One of the more interesting charts we had for sure. The top show is below 3k, which is probably among the lowest ever for a top show if not the lowest – and then we have a whopping 17 shows above 700 karma and 11 above 1k.

So it’s one of the least top-heavy seasons of all time, while still having a broad selection befitting a very strong one.

      Also RIP Deer.

    7. ultron_vision on

The numbers look really bad but this season has been surprisingly strong so far! Coming in, there were only a handful of shows I was interested in but now I’m watching 17 (including continuing ones from spring) and have yet to add Makeine.

Have to thank the number of people who have consistently recommended Yatagarasu each week! Finally caught up and it has been amazing. Definitely a hidden gem!

    8. Illustrious-Fox5135 on

Poor Anna sandwiched between two men. One who already has a girlfriend and one who will easily gather girls with his casual rizz energy šŸ˜

“There are only two types of girls, childhood friend and a homewrecker”

    9. Internal_Eye620 on

Iā€™m surprised **Kono Sekai wa Fukanzen Sugiru** not mentioned here. Such a good and quality ongoing.

    10. new_interest_here on

I’ll be honest, this episode of Shoshimin is what made me me make the decision that it’s not for me. I’m not saying it’s bad, but now that I’ve seen what the whole being ordinary concept entails, I don’t think I’m really big on it

    11. Shimmering-Sky on

Super glad to see Sengoku Youko made the chart! More people need to watch that.

      [](#delighted)

    12. I am a little disappointed that Alya had a slight drop. It was the least comedic episode, but IMO it did a fantastic job showing us who our leads are. Alya is a proud girl, but has become stubborn of putting everything on her shoulders. Masachika, who seems like the lazy type, being the guy to show her to work smart. It makes their friendship really sweet. As a Light Novel, the adaptation has been great minus a few things here and there.ā€‹

I was thrown off by how good Makeine looks, but man the comedy hits great in the show. Beyond the comedy, I am curious what it seeks out to do with the girls. The concept is unique since it is about the losing heroines. But I am curious, will this be a comedy first? Or do we potentially have a rotation of the female cast? The other Romance show on Saturdays, Atri: My Dear Moments. I adore Atri, she is so over the top, but in the funniest way possible. She works great with the seriousness of Natsuki. Visuals are really good as well. Not Makeine level, but really good.

Sengoku Youko is back and being one of the more under-watched shows of the Winter season. I recently rewatched the first part in the last few weeks and the writing was great, and White Fox did a great job animating it. Hopefully, the consistent quality continues into Part two. Sengoku Youko, The Elusive Samurai and Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master are in my personal top 3 shows that I anticipated the most heading into this season. (I am a big fan of The Elusive Samurai and given Cloverworks and Umehara production line working on it just added to the anticipation for me.)

    13. It always surprises me how far MHA has fallen in popularity. That Endeavor episode wouldve easily topped the charts if it still had its 2017 popularity.

    14. Wow, *almost* every single show on the chart lost karma in comparison to last week. That is with the exception of **Elusive Samurai** (215 karma) and **Ossan Newbie Adventurer** (7 karma).

The karma loss **My Deer Friend Nokotan** is especially big, but this was given considering last weekā€™s situation. [This karma graph](https://animekarmawatch.com/thread/1e2bus9?compare_to=1dximv2) is just sad to see. Really curious how todayā€™s episode will perform though.

I am a bit surprised that **Spice and Wolf** lost karma, since the latest episode hit like a bomb. Thought that its karma would therefore explode as well. Hereā€™s [your weekly dose of Holo](https://imgur.com/a/SspQ4hn) (spoiler-free) nonetheless.

^(EDIT: corrected my mistakes in the first part.)

    15. A -5792 karma from last week for a karma total of 22,266. Unfortunate what contributed to that, but…

Really happy to see Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! with a very strong debut for its Episode 1 karma total. 2124 karma and 2nd Place (very fitting for the show) puts it slightly above Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian by 47 karma.

Akane fans, thanks for not bleeding out too much karma for Episode 3 of 怐Oshi no Ko怑S2.

Happy that Pseudo-Harem is still managing over 1000 karma as of Episode 4.

That comment count on Days With My Stepsister relative to its karma and MAL score.

Favorite banner of the week: Have 3 I really like.

      1. MONOGATARI Series: OFF & MONSTER Season (for the Gen. 1 PokƩmon throwback).

      2. Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!

      3. 怐Oshi no Ko怑S2

    16. Based banner choice for 2.5d seduction. Must’ve been difficult to choose with so many booty-ful shots of best girl mikari, heh

    17. actionfirst1 on

**Wistoria: Wand and Sword** and **The Elusive Samurai** continue to deliver this season, been really impressed with **Alya-San** too, Doga Kobo is doing what they need to do in order to become a heavy-hitter well known studio

Glad to see Tower of God is fairing better here than on Anime Corner.

A very stable Week #2 as the Top 3 of Week #1 (**Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian**, **怐Oshi no Ko怑S2**, and **My Deer Friend Nokotan**) remain the Top 3 of this week.

New to the Top 10 for its debut falling under Week #2 is **Too Many Losing Heroines!** at 4th which pushed almost everything under it down the rankings.

**The Elusive Samurai** sees a modest +1 boost from 8th to 7th.

The banner for Too Many Losing Heroines is perfect. I swear Anna has so many great expressions per episode.

    21. SometimesMainSupport on

Slightly surprised OP didn’t expand beyond top-30 to include Narenare.

    22. Man romance/romcom is pretty stacked this season huh

Stepsister, Makeine and Shoshimin just look gorgeous so far. Enjoying their respective stories but Iā€™m savouring their vibes

With all the blue I was seeing I thought Atri would be like Aria. But so far it feels like a more dramatic version of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, which Iā€™m definitely down for.

As a romcom fan though, having Giji Harem, Alya, 2.5D, Cafe Terrace among others is pretty fun. And with dramas like Futakire and Otokonoko I feel like Iā€™m eating good this season

    23. SouekiSennoSTM on

I love how we’re only a few weeks into the season, and already the majority – or six, of the 10 series I’m even watching, as far as brand new seasonals go, don’t even rank and appear (Boku no Tsuma wa Kanjou ga Nai, Ramen Akaneko, Tensui no Sakuna-hime, Kono Sekai wa Fukanzen Sugiru, Isekai Suicide Squad, and Na Nare Hana Nare).

    24. It seems strange to say, but there is so much I want to watch this season that it’s hard to keep up with it all, I think from what I’ve seen that the quality of the animation and also the visual creativity this season is excellent.

But I remain quite impressed by Days with My stepsisters, which shows that even if there isn’t a “great production” behind it (we’re talking about studio Deen), but with good direction, you can still create something really pleasant to watch.

Then how can I not mention something like The Elusive Samurai, honestly I’m still not that emotionally attached to the characters, but the creativity of this series is really impressive, a certain scene even reminded me of “The Tale of The Princess Kaguya”, the staff gives me the feeling that he is having fun doing this

Honestly we can call Doga Kobo the “studio of this season”

I also want to talk about MHA, in my opinion this season is a good adaptation of an excellent battle shonen, which I don’t know whether to call it underrated (it’s still very popular), but it doesn’t seem very considered in its quality, personally if we talk about the quality of character writing, in the last 10/15 years I struggle to find better battle shonen in this, only Mob Psycho 100 and Chainsaw Man.

    25. Heroines is such a good show, I hope people haven’t been turned away due to the title

    26. ah, yes, my favorite Monogatari series, the Pokemonogatari

Days with My Stepsister episode 3 just went from *”ah, this is relaxing”* to ***”holy shit, that escalated quickly”***

also, for gremlin enjoyer, go watch Losing Heroines, you won’t regret it
